Description

Sweet, even, complex, warm

George Wulme-Hudson was born in 1862 in St Pancras, London and trained as a violinist at Guildhall School of Music. He is considered one of the most important early 20th century British luthiers and is referred to as “the second John Lott,” a fine copyist of old Italian master instruments. He was initially self-taught and later trained with luthier Thomas Jacques Holder. Wulme-Hudson was very prolific, crafting more than 800 instruments as both an independent maker as well as for Edward Withers’ prominent London shop. This violin has a mature, open sound and is even across all registers. This versatile violin would be a fantastic instrument for orchestral and chamber playing. It has a dark, reddish-brown top and a bright, two piece back with beautiful flame. The scroll has delicately blackened chamfers. This violin is in excellent condition. Inside label reads: Geo Wulme-Hudson fecit London anno 1936Length: 35.8 cmUpper Bouts: 16.8 cmMiddle Bouts: 11.4 cmLower Bouts: 20.7 cm
