AboutEmanuel Whitmarsh:
Emanuel Whitmarsh was a distinguished English violin maker based in London. Originally trained as a stonemason, he was self-taught in the art of violin making. Whitmarsh began his lutherie career in Soho around 1856, where he not only crafted new instruments but also provided repair services for various dealers. In 1885, he moved his workshop to Kentish Town Road, then to Hackney in 1887, and finally established himself in Dalston in 1908, where he was assisted by his son, Edwin. In recognition of his work, Whitmarsh was awarded a silver medal at the Inventions Exhibition in London in 1885.
