Description
The Knoll workshop, established in Germany in 1932 by Alfred Knoll (1909-1980), has a rich legacy in bow making. Alfred’s son, Harmut, took over the workshop in 1977, followed by Harmut’s son, Gerald, in 2003, continuing the family tradition. Today, the Knoll workshop continues to excel, crafting a diverse array of bows that cater to advanced students and professional soloists alike, upholding a tradition of excellence and precision in the art of bow making. Simply for Strings is an authorised stockist of Knoll bows.
Features:
- High quality pernambuco
- Round stick
- Silver French style winding
- Nickel-silver mounted
- Ebony frog
- Based on a Dodd model
The Knoll “Dodd” model is a strong and agile bow that immediately catches the string in staccato and makes a sparkling spiccato or sautille easily attainable. Despite this, the bow is not unwieldy in legato playing. It tracks well along the string and offers sufficient resistance when more weight is required for stronger playing. The “Dodd” model accommodates for the needs of advancing students and players who seek a bright and powerful tone, along with easy and immediate bow response.
At Simply for Strings, each bow is hand-selected to exacting criteria, including examining the hair, camber of the bow and the bow’s ability and sound across different techniques.
Please note, each bow is unique and handcrafted – your new bow may look slightly different to the photograph used.
